I’m excited to share with you a project that we’ve been working on for the past months. Meal at Work is a global and inclusive community of teammates gathering over lunch designed to inspire positive change across workplaces.
The inaugural event will take place on November, 17th on the theme of ‘Gratitude’ in workplaces around the world. Will you join us?
The back story
After my TEDx talk in Portugal (for those who asked me, it should be online very soon), I came across the call for the Ashoka Changemaker Bootcamp. I knew that it would be a great opportunity for WE Factory, so I decided to apply.
In the past year, I’ve spent a considerable amount researching how people eat at work and work-related events. I’ve joined online forums, I’ve read books on the topics, I’ve talked and interviewed employees, HR managers, business owners, workplace researchers, therapists, event organizers, and chefs. Regardless the industry, I learned that we share the frustration about the lack of spaces where to eat and gather. Some of those conversations have turned into an ongoing interview series, which you can read here in the blog.
With my consulting work for conferences and workplaces, I have the great opportunity to help organizations change how they approach eating in light of more nourishing food and overall well-being. I’ve designed food concepts for conferences and trained professionals on experience design for inclusion. However, I always felt that a one-to-one model has, well, an impact on one organization.
Meal at Work, and reach many
So, I created Meal at Work, a global and inclusive community of teammates gathering over lunch to make people think about how something simple like eating healthy food together can create accessible, diverse and inclusive workplaces. In fact, research shows that workplace satisfaction is much higher in those workplaces where people eat healthy and nourishing food with their coworkers. Let’s not mention the return in productivity and reduction of sick days and chronic diseases.
I decided that if I had to bet on a model that I still hadn’t explored it had to be building a community like that of Meal at Work. I focused my application on social innovation in workplaces. I’m excited to share that I’m one of the 2017 Cohort of Emerging Innovators in Berlin!
Since setting Meal at Work up and reaching out to people in my network I’ve had some interesting conversations with both employers and employees. It is making people think, which is fantastic. Lots of people are applying with their workplaces, showing their commitment to making a change.
I believe that by eating together, we can make a difference. I invite you and your workplace to join me and collectively redesign the relationship between work, eating, and well-being. And help each other make work a better, more fulfilling part of life.
So, will you join us?
